Happy Holidays!

Let's hope for more snow than rain in the coming storm.  We could use a few inches of the white fluffy stuff.  We live in Wisconsin, right?

Skiers can still sign up (and get their gear) at Bluedog in Viroqua.  Let your friends know.

Coaches - If you are available, we can do a pre-season clinic on Sunday January 6th at Timber Coulee.  We can do this with or without snow.

Sign-up/Info Night Monday Dec 17

Sign up night will be Monday, December 17th at 5:00 pm.  You can come anytime between 5:00 and 6:30.  I will give a short presentation about the ski club and what to expect at 5:00.  You can pay at the meeting ($50 for lessons and $50 for rental gear, if needed).  Then go to Bluedog and pick up your gear.

The meeting will be in the basement of the Viroqua Area Medical Office Building (407 S Main St, Viroqua).  This is same room we have used for the past several years.  Hope to see you there.

Snowflake Jr Nordic Celebrates 10 Years!

Join us for our tenth year of Nordic skiing in the Driftless Area.  We will be back down in Timber Coulee this year.
Westby Rod & Gun Club has offered their building for us and the DNR has allowed us to groom trails on their land.

Information and Sign-up Night will be Monday, December 17th.
Practices will be Mondays in January and February from 3:45 - 5:00.
More details will be posted later.

Get ready for some fun skiing and pray for a snowy winter.

Please return gear to Bluedog

I'm pretty sure we are done skiing for the year.  Please return your skis, boots and poles to Bluedog so they can get everything inventoried and stored.  I think some boots went home after the last practice.

Next winter will be better.  Stay tuned for info about a planning meeting for next year.

Last Hurrah!

I have everyone's skis and poles for skating, and I will bring them to practice on Monday at 3:45.  We will ski around until about 4:45 and then eat some hot dogs!

I will bring hot dogs, buns, ketchup and mustard.  You can bring anything else, if you want to.

See you Monday!

Ski Swap

You can bring your skis into Bluedog Saturday afternoon to exchange them.

Otherwise, let me know if you can't make that time, and I will pick up some skate skis for your skiers and bring them to practice on Monday.

Skate on Monday?

If the snow lasts, we can have a skating practice on Monday at VFW. We'll roast some hot dogs after.
Get into Bluedog to swap your skis and poles. If any of the young skiers don't want to skate, that's fine.

It all depends on the weather; stay tuned.

Too little, too late

The new snow looks nice, but it is not enough to ski on.

Practices will have to be on hold unless/until we get a good spring storm.

Found some snow!

I found a little snow in a field near my house.  There is decent snow cover and there are some little rolling hills to practice going up and down.  I set some tracks and it should be fun...
depending on what the weather does.

It is supposed to be warm today and rainy(!) on Monday.  If it holds up, and the weather is OK Monday afternoon, lets ski!  I will be there from 3:45 - 5:00pm.

The field is on the south side of CTH Y, between Woodland and Bakkom Roads.
You can park at the gray pin on the map below.  There are some hay wagons in that area.
If you have any questions, give me a call (485-0876).

Tracks, finally!

There are some tracks around the tank and pavilion fields.  I also packed the perimeter trail, but did not set tracks on that yet.
See you on Monday!

Optional, short practice Monday 4:00 - 4:30

I groomed the fields by the tank and pavilion, but there is not enough snow to set tracks.  There is a little grass poking through, and some walnuts.  Hopefully we will get more snow tomorrow and again later in the week.

Due to the limited space, and that some folks don't have their skis yet, we will just have a short practice tomorrow as one group.  Mostly skiing around without poles and playing some games.  Show up if you are desperate to ski, but don't expect great conditions.  The older kids can help the young ones.  Dress warm!

Stand by, Skier-people!

It is trying to be winter out there.  We need a good 3 - 4 inches of snow to groom.

I will check out the conditions tomorrow afternoon and update the blog Sunday evening.

Stay tuned, and check the blog Sunday night... you might not get the email push in time.

More terrible weather

It does not look good for Monday.  I'm afraid we will have to wait for more snow.

I am still hopeful that it will turn into winter soon, and we can have some practices.  I will probably refund some of your money due to the shortened season.  Thanks for understanding.

Almost enough snow

The new snow is beautiful, and much appreciated.  But we could use a little more.  After grooming, the snow packed down to about 1/2 inch!  Not enough to set tracks, but we should have a good base if it stays cold.  We should let the snow set up tonight, but please get out and slide around starting Tuesday.  It would be good to just shuffle along without poles and try to glide on each ski.

The field by the tank is packed, and there is a short loop above the well house.
Watch out for the walnuts!

I tried to groom in the woods, but there isn't enough snow.
Don't venture beyond the tank field or you will damage your skis or yourself.

Snow predicted, but too cold Monday

Hopefully we will get 3 - 4 inches of snow on Sunday night.  However, the predicted temperature Monday afternoon is only 4 degrees, with a windchill of minus 15.  We will have to wait another week for the first practice.

If we do get at least 3 inches of snow, we will try to groom and you are welcome to get out and check out the tracks when the weather warms up later in the week.  I'll keep you posted about the grooming.

Cross your skis for more snow!

1st Practice Postponed

I walked around the VFW today and there is not nearly enough snow to have practice on Monday.

It is supposed to warm up by Wednesday and then hopefully dump snow on Thursday.  Stand by.

More snow, please!

We need to get some more snow in order to groom the trails.  There is a chance of snow on Sunday.  Let's watch the weather and hope for the best.  Stay tuned.

Also, keep your eye out for a fun new ski event at KVR Winterfest on January 13th - the Dam Ski Daddle.
